This site will teach everyone responsible for delivering a calf what they need, how and when to assist and when to call for help. It will also help veterinarians to become more efficient and therefore more cost-effective when called to assist in delivering calves.
Mission Statement
To improve the calving process for the benefit of the cow, cattlemen, and the veterinarians responding to obstetrical problems.
About Dr. Tom Zehnder
(AKA “Tommy”)
Dr. Thomas Zehnder received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California at Davis in 1979. Since then he has spent almost his entire career in his hometown of Elk Grove where he has delivered thousands of calves. Over the last 40 years of delivering both dairy and beef calves he has discovered not only what not to do, but more importantly how to make the process of delivering calves easier, leading to the best possible outcomes. Dr. Zehnder is married with 4 children. One of them graduates from veterinary school in 2020, inspiring him to present Cowboy Calving as a way to help her as a veterinarian, and others too.
