This video will show you everything you need to deliver a calf requiring a minor assist. It will also show you when to assist and more importantly how to assist in a delivery. But again, the most important thing you will learn is WHY it is important to deliver calves the right way because that is what will make you DO IT THE RIGHT WAY.
The detailed description includes the equipment needed, the right way to apply ob chains to the fetus, how to lubricate and stretch the vulva, when to apply pressure to the fetus, the importance of checking for a twin and caring for the calf immediately post partem. But maybe the most important thing you will learn is when to call for help.
Additional Notes
- ALWAYS deliver calves with the cow in the down position (if possible).
- NEVER deliver a calf in a squeeze chute (unless absolutely necessary).
- If the cow goes down in a chute it is always a problem and almost all cows go down when pressure is applied.
